ABOUT ME AS AN EDUCATOR (Bio in progress)

Leslie Ann Marcoccio is a "Solopreneur" and the Founder of Concierge Teacher - Tutor; a Virtual Tutoring Service focused on helping students meet individual learning goals, all over the world.  She specializes in adolescent reading and writing and adult English reading development.  Her teaching career has been centered around helping students at - risk to qualify for high school diplomas, college, and career readiness.  She has extensive experience in research based reading reform.

Leslie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Biology, Psychobiology, and Early through Adolescent Childhood at California State University, Dominguez Hills.  She focused her post graduate studies in Educational Psychology and Education Law and is presently pursuing an M.S. Degree in Business Management and Leadership at WGU.

Leslie has been designated a "highly effective teacher" for approximately 17 years and currently holds two valid certificates:  a "Life-time" Texas Teacher's Certificate via the Teacher's College at Texas A&M University, Commerce, Texas and a Florida Teaching Credential in Elementary Education.  She is both Reading and  ESOL  endorsed. Her most recent duty assignment was as an intensive reading teacher, Kindergarten - 12th grade, ESOL teaching English in a Title I High School in South Florida.

Leslie was one of three "highly effective" teachers selected by Project Grad, Houston to assist Cheryl Maybe in the launch of Project Grad, Los Angeles in Hollywood, California. She worked as a Consistency Management and Cooperative Discipline® Facilitator in the Northeast San Fernando Feeder Pattern whereby she successfully trained over 250 teachers in Cooperative Discipline and Classroom Management and Facilitated Bilingual - Parent Workshops, earning her recognition for her Community Service to the City of San Fernando in the Los Angeles Unified School District.  It is in this capacity that Leslie credits her growth and vision as "not just a teacher, but a facilitator of dreams."

Leslie has worked with students from many economically, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in California, Texas and in Florida. Her ability to deal effectively with diverse constituency groups, strong interpersonal skills, and resourcefulness has earned her the name "Reading Guru" among many of her peers and the opportunity to teach in "A" schools as well as "F" schools making her uniquely qualified to understand and differentiate instruction for students classified "At-Risk" regardless of their intelligence quotient.

According to Ms. Marcoccio,   "Every school, be it public, private, charter or parochial has students that struggle in reading. Even students identified "Talented and Gifted" can have reading deficiencies".

As the mother of two Exceptionally Talented and Gifted young adult men, presently pursuing degrees in college, Leslie understands the challenges and hard work it takes for all stakeholders in a child's education to work together to ensure that students receive the best teacher(s), the best resources, and the best possible learning environment conducive to their learning.
