Crazy Professor: Active Reading Strategy

Before trying this strategy, make sure students have been taught how to control the volume of their voices. There is a nice explanation, within this video, of how to do so.



I liked how students asked one another to repeat what they just heard. This ensures that the listener is actually paying attention to the speaker...

I will try this out with the freshman class in the beginning of the school year and combine this with the "I think this means" strategy during small group instruction.

This strategy teaches students to "let go" of their anxiety about reading and gives them permission to "act out."

When students are this engaged, their comprehension and retention level is sure to increase!
